How to Fix Discolored Limestone in a Shower
- 1). Remove all items in the shower stall. Ensure the area you are working in is well-ventilated by opening windows and turning on the bathroom’s exhaust fan. Put several old towels or sheets on the floor in front of the shower to avoid spills and slipping.
- 2). Put on rubber gloves and safety goggles. Mix 1 cup of muriatic acid and 15 cups of water in a large bucket. Place the bucket on the old towels or sheets outside the shower area.
- 3). Dip the deck brush or soft scrubbing brush into the bucket with the solution. For larger showers, a deck brush makes the job easier and safer because you can reach the areas without walking into the shower. The discoloration is most likely in lower parts of the shower where the soap and water drains. Shake off the deck brush to remove the excess solution. Scrub the discolored areas with the deck brush. Repeat dipping the deck brush in the solution and scrubbing the shower until the discoloration is gone.
- 4). Rinse the shower thoroughly with hot water to ensure all the muriatic acid is removed while using a removable shower head if the shower has one. You can also rinse your shower with a plastic pitcher by starting at the top of the shower and pouring the water down the walls. Continue to ventilate the area until the chemical smell is gone.
