Remove Wine Stains

• Once red wine has been spilled on fabric, immediately tend to it to remove the stain as soon as possible. The Mrs. Clean USA website suggests you cover the stain with cornstarch or talcum powder and rub the powder in with a soft-bristle brush, such as a toothbrush. The powder will absorb the liquid and assist in removal of the stain. If there still are marks left over, place that area of fabric in boiling water. Hot water helps break the stain up and remove it. Club soda, milk, lemon or vinegar also can be blotted on the area and help to remove the stain. If you use vinegar, make a solution of half vinegar and half water. Remove Paint Stains

• Determine if the paint is water- or oil-based. However, this should be tested in a hidden area first, as paint thinners can alter the coloring of the fabric. Rubbing alcohol also can be used to remove paint from fabric. Remove Hair Dye Stains

• To remove hair dye from fabric, immediately spray the area with hairspray until it is saturated and then wash in the washing machine with laundry detergent and a fabric stain remover. If the stain has already set, try dabbing it with rubbing alcohol on a cloth. The Cleaning Tips website also suggests scrubbing the stain with a mixture of cream of tartar and lemon juice with a soft-bristle brush. After using these techniques, apply a fabric-stain remover and launder the fabric in hot water.
