Your Office Coach: Microsoft Access 2016 in About 5 Minutes
For professionals who rely on Microsoft's relational database software, here are the latest updates for Access 2013.Â
The following is best for those who have used this programs in the past and are looking to upgrade.
Summary: Feature updates to Microsoft Access 2016 seems to see very minimal updates from past versions, at the time of this writing. If more are released, it will be a surprise to most watching development of the desktop version. The web app appears to be where Microsoft is focusing its efforts instead.Â
Microsoft's new Tell Me features gives you the opportunity to search for tools rather than memorizing where they are located or which keyboard shortcuts to use.
Since the tool also remembers your latest few searches, you can technically use this as a 'favorites' type of tool, depending on how many terms you end up searching for.Â
The idea behind this new functionality is that it saves you time, as an alternative to reading a full-fledged Help article or description, although those will of course still be available if you prefer that instead.
Find the 'Tell Me' search field in the upper right corner of the Access 2016 user interface.
Microsoft Access 2016 also includes increased DPI support (250% and 300%) meaning you can have a stronger viewing experience on larger-screened computers thanks to the improved resolution support.
This can be nice if you are someone who works in datasheets and other database elements for hours in a given day.
A new, more dynamic theme has been applied throughout Office 2016, as the default, to help unify your experience across the various programs and your devices.
It looks as though the new dark theme should also be available for Access. This is a new experience alternative, allowing you to get away from other Office themes you may feel are too bright.
To investigate or customize your theme options, go to File -Account - Office Theme, then make your selection.
The Microsoft Office 2016 suite in general is more focused when it comes to customizing how you share documents in the cloud, whether with yourself or others.Â
For example, you can designate who can view a document as well as who can edit the document with you, all when you create the sharing links and more.Â
More details about sharing options in Microsoft Access 2016 to come with the release of the consumer version.
