- 1). You can purchase origami cranes (Reference 4) or you can make origami paper cranes yourself. (Reference 3). To start your chain, cut a piece of yarn the length that you want your paper crane chain to be.
- 2). Thread about two inches of the yarn through a tapestry needle.
- 3). Knot the long loose end of the yarn. This knot should be large enough that the cranes will not slip through.
- 4). Locate the tiny hole in the paper crane's belly. This is the hole that was used to inflate the crane.
- 5). Push the needle through the hole and out through the center of the crane's back.
- 6). Pull the yarn through until the crane is seated comfortably on the knot.
- 7). Tie a knot in the string where you want the next crane to rest.
- 8). Repeat steps 4 through 7 for each crane you want to put on the string.
- 9). Finish the paper crane chain by putting a knot above the back of the final crane or tying a loop in the yarn and hanging it from a location in your home.
