Fishing in State Parks

• There are more than 40 state parks in the state where angling can take place. There is no need for a licence to fish in the coastal bays or the Atlantic Ocean provided it is not being done for commercial reasons and it is done inside the boundaries of a state or national park. However there are still certain regulations as laid out in the Maryland Department for Natural Resources' website. State Parks include the Assateague State Park, where surf fishing, bay fishing and clamming is allowed. Another is Susquehanna State Park where pike, bass and perch can be caught in the river.
  
  

Fishing on Chesapeake Bay

• The Chesapeake Bay is the biggest estuary in the United States. It has around 350 different species of fish including resident and migratory species. There are some freshwater species in the tributaries of the bay. Some of the more common fish here include the American Eel, the Atlantic Sturgeon, Striped Bass and Spotted Seatrout. It is possible to go on a charter fishing trip on the Chesapeake Bay, a set fee usually includes all equipment and licenses.
  
  

Inland Fishing

• There are many lakes and rivers inland in Maryland suitable for freshwater fishing. In Garrett County these include Broadford Lake, Deep Creek Lake. In Allegany County there is Rocky Gap Lake. In Washington County can be found Blairs Valley Lake, while in Frederick County there is Cunningham Falls Reservoir. Centennial Lake is in Haward County and in Wicomico County there are a number of ponds including Adkins Mill, Johnson's Pond and Leonard's Mill.
  
  

License Free Fishing

• Even in license-free fishing areas anglers are required to register on the Maryland Department of Natural Resources website. Areas where anglers do not need a license, include three locations in Baltimore: Canton Recreational Pier, Middle Branch Park and Hull Street Recreational Pier. There are also a number of county-owned piers and wharfs where a no license is needed. These include the Charlestown Wharf, in Cecil County; the Friendship Landing, in Charles County; and the Long Wharf in Cambridge, Dorchester County.
