    • 1). Measure the width and length of the lawn mower's seat with a tape measure. Use these measurements to select a gel seat insert to fit the seat as closely as possible. Gel seat inserts are available from a motorcycle accessory shops or dealerships.

    • 2). Remove the seat from the mower and flip it over. Examine the bottom of the seat, looking specifically at the way the seat's vinyl cover is secured to the seat pan. Most seats covers are riveted or stapled to the seat pan.

    • 3). Remove the seat cover, using an electric drill and a small diameter drill bit to drill out the rivets from the seat pan. Remove a stapled seat cover with a tack and staple removal tool, pulling the staples out from the seat pan. Pull the seat cover away from the seat pan once all staples or rivets are removed.

    • 4). Flip the uncovered seat over and lay the gel insert over the top of the seat. Trim the gel insert as needed, using sharp scissors to cut off the excess material. Remove the gel insert and spray the bottom of the gel insert and the top of the seat with an adhesive spray. Allow the adhesive to set for one minute, then lay the gel insert over the seat again.

    • 5). Lay the seat cover over the seat. Pull the front of the seat cover tightly over the seat and gel insert. Secure the cover to the seat pan with a rivet gun, inserting the rivet into the hole made in the seat pan by the original rivet. Staple the cover in place with a heavy-duty staple gun if the seat did not use rivets. Repeat at the rear of the seat.

    • 6). Pull the seat cover tightly against the side of the seat pan and secure it in place using a rivet or staple. Repeat on the opposite side of the seat to ensure that the seat cover is tightened evenly. Grasp the seat cover a short distance from the rivet or staple and pull the seat cover taut. Secure this section with a rivet or staple. Work down the side and rear of the seat pan, alternating from side to side until the seat cover is completely secured.

    • 7). Reinstall the seat onto the lawn mower.
