How to Get More Out of Your Push in Longboarding

    • 1). Find your center of balance on your longboard. You will need to balance on one foot while the other pushes off the ground. Place your planting foot on the board between the center of the board and the back trucks. Stand up on one foot and try to balance on the board. Adjust your foot backward or forward depending on what feels comfortable to you. The better balance you have on the board, the longer your strides will be, which results in faster pushes and more speed.

    • 2). Remove your back foot from the board and position it on the ground next to your front foot. You should have your back foot on the ground and your front foot on the board.

    • 3). Push your back foot off the ground to propel the board forward. Continue to push off the ground using your back foot until you have reached a comfortable speed. Return your back foot to the board.

    • 4). Take longer strides when pushing off the ground. Plant your back foot next to your front foot. Push off the ground and leave your back foot on the ground until it reaches the back of the board, then raise it off the ground.

    • 5). Switch your footing on your longboard. Find the stance and footing that feels comfortable. Push off the ground using your front foot. This stance is called "Mongo" pushing. This stance allows you to plant your foot ahead of the longboard for larger strides.

    • 6). Push your longboard downhill. Find a hill or slope to ride your longboard on. Pushing on a downhill slope will increase the power and speed of your push, using momentum to accelerate yourself forward.
