Video: Bind Upwards in Foil Fencing
Video Transcript
It is also possible to bind up. We just showed you the binds where you would go from a four to an eight and a six to a seven but now let's try binding up. If I were to start here facing an attack, I would go from this seven line, bind the blade and swoop it up to an upward diagonal. It is a little trickier just because it takes a little more energy, a little more energy and force just to get that blade upwards to a diagonal but it is completely possible especially if you continue to focus on using your fort of your blade to bind your opponent's blade. So from this line you are going to take that low line and swoop it up making a swooping motion and again using your fingers for point of control. Take that blade from this diagonal up to an upward diagonal. The movement is a little bit exaggerated but that gives you a good idea. Let's see what that move looks like against an opponent. It is the same motion offensively or defensively but we are showing this defensively and how I would use it to bind a series of low line attacks. She thrusts and I bind up. One more time. She thrusts and I bind to the opposite line leaving her open for target area. Let's try the opposite low line. She thrusts and I bind up. Once again, she thrusts and I bind and she is now open for attack and that is the binding upward.
