How to Teach Your Daughter How to Do Cart Wheels
- 1). Demonstrate a cartwheel for your daughter. If you can't perform one, show her a video of a cartwheel being performed.
- 2). Have your daughter stand over a padded area to prevent injuries.
- 3). Instruct your daughter to stand with her feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and her hands in the air at about the same width as her feet. Model this pose for her. Also have her place the foot that corresponds with her dominant hand slightly in front of her. For instance, if she is right handed, she should place her right foot forward since she will be turning to the right during the cartwheel.
- 4). Rock back and forth on your feet as you stand in the pose described in Step 3 and have your daughter to do the same. This rocking motion will help to prepare her for the type of movement she will need to begin the cartwheel.
- 5). Support your daughter by holding onto her waist as you tell her to rock sideways as she moves downward toward her dominant side, placing her dominant hand on the floor first. Then she should place her other hand on the floor as she kicks her feet into the air. Guide her over sideways as she places her foot that corresponds with her nondominant side down first, followed by the other foot as she returns to an upright position. The progression and rhythm of the cartwheel should be hand (dominant), hand (nondominant), foot (nondominant side), foot (dominant side).
- 6). Assist your daughter in moving back to the upright position as she completes the cartwheel.
