How to Draw Professional Looking Fashion Sketches
- 1). Find some photos of models to be used as the base for your sketch. You can easily find them in any fashion magazine. Find one photo of the model facing forward and one of her facing away, with the back of her clothing made visible.
- 2). Tape the photos to a window, and place a blank white sheet of paper over the top of each one.
- 3). Trace the photos with a graphite pencil. Trace very lightly over any clothing that is visible on the model, as you will be replacing that later on. Having an accurately proportioned body to draw clothing on ensures that the clothing itself will appear properly balanced.
- 4). Remove your new drawings from the window.
- 5). Draw your clothing, or the clothing that you wish to include in the sketches, over the top of the model tracings. Use a graphite pencil, and draw in any details as accurately as possible. Make the structure of the clothing fit to the model in the same manner as the clothing in your initial tracing did.
- 6). Go over your graphite drawings with a black fine point pen. Use broad strokes so as to add movement to the image and make it jump off of the page. For example, not all lines in the figure or clothing have to be connected. They can overlap and intersect, as long as the most important details such as embroideries and shape are clear.
- 7). Erase all pencil lines from the sketch.
- 8). Color the clothing in the sketch with markers or pencil crayons. Color lightly so as not to overpower the image but to present the garment as accurately as possible.
- 9). Add light touches of color to the model, connecting it to the garment without allowing it to become a distraction. Place touches of color on the figure's cheeks, shoulders, knees and shoes if applicable.
