Military Spouse Nursing Scholarships
- The Phoenix American Legion Auxiliary offers scholarship assistance to the spouses of veterans through the Past Presidents' Parley Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $600. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen of the United States and must have been a resident of Arizona for at least one year. Recipients are selected on the basis of personal character, initiative, academic record and financial need. Applications must be submitted by May 15 of each year.
- The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Iowa provides tuition assistance to the spouses of veterans through the Mary Virginia Macrae Memorial Merit Award. This award is named after the woman who served as the first president of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Iowa. This scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $400 to a nursing student.
- The Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary makes annual scholarship assistance available to the spouses of veterans who are in pursuit of nursing degrees. The Past President's Parley is available in the amount of $1,000. Two are awarded each year. To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Wisconsin, must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and must be in financial need. The annual deadline for application is March 15.
- The Nursing Foundation of Pennsylvania offers scholarship assistance to the spouses of veterans through the Jack E. Barger, Sr., Scholarship Program. Six scholarships of $1,000 are awarded each year. To be eligible, an applicant must be a resident of Pennsylvania and, if selected, must attend the local VFW district meeting to accept the scholarship in person. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of a lottery drawn from names submitted by deans and chairpersons of Pennsylvania schools of nursing; you cannot apply for it directly.
- The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California offers tuition assistance to the spouses or widows of veterans through the Past President's Parley Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship is valued at $2,000. According to the application, this "scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who most fully meets the requirements for admission to an accredited California nursing school and who provides evidence of the greatest need for financial assistance." The annual deadline for application is April 2.
