How to Add a Port to a Bass Drum Head

    • 1). Remove the head from the bass drum by alternating between the tension screws.

    • 2). Turn the drum head so the front is lying face down. Lay the drum head on a wood cutting board or surface that will not melt. Make a mark with a pencil where you would like the porthole.

    • 3). Turn on a burners on your electric stove to high heat.

    • 4). Place the metal can, with the open end facing down, on the burner.

    • 5). Wait for two to three minutes and then press the can down on the burner, using an oven mitt, for 30 to 40 seconds to ensure that it's heated uniformly.

    • 6). Pick up the heated can, using an oven mitt, and line the can up to the mark made in Step 2.

    • 7). Press the heated side of the can evenly onto the drum head for about 10 seconds, twisting the can slightly, and then slowly lift the can straight up and away from the drum head.
