How to Upgrade the NVIDIA FX 3700 in a HP Pavilion Elite M9340F PC
- 1). Click "Start" and type "Device Manager" in the "Search" box. Click the "Device Manager" icon and click the "+" icon located next to the "Display Adapters" heading.
- 2). Right-click the "Intel" option and choose "Uninstall." Choose "OK" and shut down the computer after the on-board video driver is uninstalled.
- 3). Unplug the power cable and disconnect the cables for the monitor, keyboard, mouse and any other hardware devices attached to the Pavilion Elite's case. Set the case on a sturdy work area and position the case on its side, with the metal panel facing up.
- 4). Unscrew the two Phillips screws at the far left side of the case that lock the metal panel. Hold down the panel and slide it away from the computer case. Locate the black PCI-Express card slot at the bottom-left corner of the motherboard. The card slot is positioned horizontally and includes a metal retaining tab connected to the back of the case.
- 5). Remove the Phillips screw at the top of the metal retaining tab. Pull the tab off the case and position the NVIDIA GX 3700 card over the card slot. Line up the bottom end of the card with the card slot.
- 6). Push the FX 3700 card down gently so the bottom of the card sinks into the card slot and makes a full connection. Take the screw you removed from the metal retaining tab and set it in the screw hole on the metal edge of the card. Tighten the screw in place.
- 7). Put the metal panel onto the case and slide it to the right. Push the panel down and replace the two screws removed previously. Plug in your Pavilion's power cable and each of the cables for the other hardware devices.
- 8). Press the power button on the front of the case. Insert the installation disc that came with the FX 3700 in the Pavilion's disk drive. Click "Next" at each prompt that appears and choose "Finish" to install the video card's driver software.
