- 1). Turn off the circuit by tripping the breaker in the main panel.
- 2). Place your baseboard heater in an efficient location. It will work best under windows and must be kept away from existing electrical receptacles and flammable materials. If you are replacing, put it back in the same location. If new, have your electrician pull the wire through the wall at one end of the window, about 4 inches from the floor.
- 3). Knock out the metal circle on the back of your heater behind the wiring connections on the end you will wire. Pull the power supply from the wall into the heater. You should have two wires coming from the wall and three in the heater.
- 4). Screw the green wire to the metal body of the heater. This is a ground. Connect one of each of the two wires coming out of the wall to one of each of the black and red wires in your heater. It does not matter which wire you hook these wires to. It is impossible to wire it backward. Use a wire nut and twist on the two wires, leaving no bare wire exposed. If necessary, strip about a half an inch of insulation from the power wires.
- 5). Screw the heater to the wall. There should be a wall stud very close to where your power exits the wall for your heater. Place one 2-inch screw through the metal back of the heater and into the wall stud. Studs are spaced 14 1/2 inches apart typically, with the center of one stud being 16 inches away from the next. Screw the heater approximately every 32 inches.
- 6). Replace the metal cover plate over the wiring connections on the heater. Turn on the circuit breaker at the panel. Turn on the heater's thermostat. You should feel heat in two to five minutes.
