How to Draw Demon Wings With Illustrator

    • 1). Click the tool palette icon shaped like an ellipse to run the "Ellipse" tool. Drag in the window to create an ellipse whose length is approximately twice its height. This shape forms the basic shape of a demon wing.

    • 2). Click the tool palette icon shaped like a "V" lying on its side to run the tool for converting curves to straight segments, and vice versa. Click the ellipse's leftmost point to convert the left side to a V-like shape. This action produces the tapered point characteristic of demon wings.

    • 3). Press "Control" and "C" simultaneously and then press "Control" and "V" simultaneously to make a duplicate of the modified ellipse.

    • 4). Drag the duplicate so its bottom edge fits inside the original ellipse. It needs to be roughly parallel to the original ellipse's bottom edge. Place it approximately halfway between the original ellipse's top and bottom edges. The lower edge of the duplicate provides a guideline for forming the wave-like shape of the wing's bottom edge.

    • 5). Create an ellipse about one-quarter the size of the original. Drag the ellipse so its top aligns with the bottom edge of the duplicate ellipse you positioned in the last step. Ensure the new ellipse's outline passes through the outer ellipsis's tapered point.

    • 6). Create at least two more ellipses. Position them at equal intervals along the bottom of the original ellipse. Ensure their tops align with the lower edge of Step 4's duplicate ellipse.

    • 7). Drag the mouse around all ellipses except the first two. Right click the mouse to display a context menu. Click "Send to back" to place the first two ellipses in front of the remaining ellipses. This step is needed for the command that will subtract the helper ellipses from the original ellipse.

    • 8). Click the "Minus" button from the "Pathfinder" window to subtract the helper ellipses from the original ellipse and to complete the left demon wing.

    • 9). Click the demon wing to select it. Press "Control" and "C" simultaneously to copy the wing to the clipboard. Press "Control" and "V" simultaneously to duplicate the wing, and then right click the duplicate. Click "Reflect" and then click "Vertical" to make the duplicate flip to form the right wing.
