Natural Deodorants for Kids
- Whether your child is engaging in strenuous activities, or is entering puberty, odor can be a problem, potentially affecting his self esteem. There are many products on the market with environmentally friendly ingredients, as well as natural remedies you can mix up at home to keep your youngster smelling fresh and clean.
- Melt 1 1/2 tbsp. of beeswax with a 1/2 tbsp. of cocoa butter in a glass jar submerged in a pot of boiling water. Add 15 drops each of white thyme and rosemary essential oils along with 25 drops of lavender essential oil and three drops of castor oil. Mix thoroughly and place into an used deodorant dispenser. Allow to cool. Apply once daily in the morning after showering.
- Grind powdered sandalwood, white oak bark and lovage root with a mortar and pestle, or use a food processor to get a fine, powdered consistency. Blend two parts sandalwood to one part each of the bark and root, and put the ingredients in an iron skillet on low heat to activate the essential oils. Place the powder in a fine handkerchief tied off with a rubber band and lightly dab under the armpits.
- Try a store-bought deodorant with all-natural ingredients, such as Burt's Bees herbal deodorant, Kiss My Face Liquid Rock or Tom's of Maine natural deodorant. These are alternatives to the standard, aluminum- and perfume-based products available in most commercial outlets.
