Video: How Long Does Hair Have to Be to Catch Box Braids?
Video Transcript
Hi, I'm T. Cooper. I'm a New York City makeup artist, hairstylist and I'm co-founder of beauty and grooming business, Metro Look. A question I get asked every now and then is how long does your hair have to be in order for you to catch it for box braids. I'd say you need at least one inch of hair, one good inch of hair you can catch a box braid. As you can see, my model right here she has long hair but even if we go to her little baby hairs in the front, they're about an inch long. This is enough for a box braid and I'll show you. I'm going to turn it over to the side, section out just a little bit, just about maybe an inch of hair, not a big deal and you just start a standard three inch braid and then you just keep going down, intertwine the hair. A lot of people would do this adding in either human or synthetic hair to extend the hair and make it a little bit longer. You can do that as well but if you just wanted to use your hair, as long as you've got about one inch of hair, you can do it. See? It's a really teeny, tiny braid, nice and skinny, but it's enough, I caught it, I'm braiding it and if your hair was one inch long you could just repeat this process all throughout the head. See? There we go. I'm T. Cooper. Thank you so much for watching.
