What Are Fluorescent Dyes & Tags?
- A fluorescent liquid dye can be inserted into your air conditioning system in your car or other vehicle, or even into your home system, and then circulated through the system as part of its normal use. Once the dye has been circulated, a technician can use special lights and goggles in order to see where the dye has escaped the system, to diagnose where a leak is coming from and to determine quickly and easily what part or parts will need to be replaced to make it work properly.
- Fluorescent dyes can be used to detect oil leaks, transmission fluid leaks and other problems with an automobile. By pouring the liquid into the crankcase or other fluid reservoir, then operating the vehicle, a technician can see what areas under the vehicle carry the dye out, and determine the source, nature, and scope of an oil or other fluid leak.
- In the medical field, fluorescent dyes can be used to see what areas of the body are affected by certain diseases. For example, they may collect along with blood cells at the site of a tumor, or they may be passed through the body in greater quantities if you have a stomach problem. Using the dyes can help doctors determine where in your body there are issues that need to be addressed or fixed.
- Individual cells can be tagged with fluorescent tags in order to determine where and how the cells are moving through your body. In this way, at a molecular level, cells can be traced through the body to determine whether or not things are working the way that they are supposed to with your body's systems.
