Social anxiety is the third largest psychological disorder in the United States today.
At any given time it affects about 15 million people per year.
Many people don't seek social anxiety help because they feel that they're the only one who has the problem, it's not talked about my much in the media, on TV shows, or in the news.
People with social anxiety realize that and their fears are illogical, but SA isn't about logic, it's an uncontrollable emotional response to feared social situations.
Scientists have yet to put a finger on the exact cause of social anxiety.
Many believe that it is caused by psychological factors, genetics, or life experiences.
In most cases it's a combination of all three.
In this article you will discover 5 tips to help with social anxiety.

) Accept that that you have social anxiety.
Do not try to hide from it, run from it, or covered it up.
Beating yourself up because you have this disorder does not help you get in the right state of mind in order to overcome SA.

) Talk to friends and family that are close to you.
Let them know that you have this disorder, you're seeking social anxiety help, and you would like their support.
Having support from friends and family is very critical when overcoming SA.

) Start to put yourself in social situations for very short periods of time.
Limit the amount of time you spend engaged in conversation to an amount you feel you can handle.
Whether its ten minutes, five minutes or one minute doing this will allow you to be in control of the social situation and not your anxiety.
An easy way to start a conversation with a stranger is to ask how they are doing, how they feel, or what they would do about at a particular situation.

) If you found the step above to be too difficult, try doing warm-ups.
Set a goal to say "Hi" and smile to ten random people for that day.
In fact, do this for entire week.
You don't have to say anything more than "Hi".
Doing this will warm you up to social situations and we'll make starting conversations that much easier.

) When engaging in conversation, focus on where your feet are standing.
It may sound strange, but when you focus on where your feet are standing it takes to your focus off of how do I sound, how I look, what are they thinking, etc.
Also focusing your questions on the other person is a great way to take pressure of yourself.
After all people love to talk about themselves so let them and take the pressure off of yourself.
