How to Cure Silicone Acrylic Paint
- 1). Choose the proper silicone acrylic paint for the application. Paints are available for structural and architectural concrete, brick masonry, natural stone, cement stucco, driveways, walkways, pool decks, patios, vertical and split-face block, and marine coatings. Some are suitable for coating pipe and high temperature purposes. Failures in color instability, inability to prevent corrosion and not being able to apply directly to hot metal can be mitigated by selecting the correct paint.
- 2). Prepare the surface according to manufacturer's instructions. In some cases, a primer must be applied prior to painting. Paint surfaces with a sprayer, roller or brush.
- 3). Curing times vary. Silicone acrylic water repellent sealers for concrete can dry to the touch in 30 minutes, allow light traffic after 12 hours and permit use of vehicles after 72 hours. Temperatures of 75 degrees and a medium humidity level are optimum. Dew accumulation and colder temperatures after painting will extend curing times. Concrete stains may dry to the touch in 30 to 60 minutes and can be re-coated in one to four hours for a spray application or 24 hours if rolled.
