How to Take Care of Louis Vuitton Bags
- 1). Protect your bag from the elements. Extreme weather conditions can ruin the leather and coloring of your bag. Do not leave the bag in your vehicle if the temperature is extremely hot outside, because this may cause the color to fade. Also try not to carry your bag on abnormally cold days, as this may cause the bag's leather to crack.
- 2). Carry the bag on your shoulder instead of in your hand. This will prevent grease, lotion or sweat on your hands from ruining the bag's leather handle. If the bag's handle only allows for hand carrying, try to wash your hands frequently when handling the bag and clean the handle with a soft dry cloth after each use.
- 3). Prepare the bag for storage when not in use. Remove all stains from the bag. Stuff the bag with white cotton towels or gift packing paper.
- 4). Cover the bag with its original dust bag or a white cotton pillowcase and place it in a purse or hat box. Place the box on a shelf in a temperature-controlled room that is dark, cool and dry.
- 1). Wipe stains from the leather. Use leather wipes, which are available at any retail store or leather specialty shop. Lightly rub the wipe on the stain until it disappears. Do not rub too hard because this can strip away the leather's surface. To prevent premature wearing of the leather, do not clean the bag on a daily basis. If you carry it frequently, once a month should suffice.
- 2). Clean the canvas area. Some bags consist of both leather and canvas materials. The canvas areas require special attention because stains may damage them more readily than their leather counterparts. Use a dry cloth to wipe any spots from the surface. Do not use soap or solvents, as these may ruin the appearance of the canvas, as well as the leather.
- 3). Remove any debris from the inside of the bag. Remove all of the contents from the bag. Turn the bag upside down over a garbage can and lightly shake it to release any dirt or debris. To clean pockets and crevices, use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attached. Lay the bag on a clean flat surface and use the hose to extract any loose particles. Do this as often as is needed.
