How to Add Glycerine to Bait
- 1). Choose your favorite bait and place in a heavy duty zip top bag or plastic container. Baits including salmon eggs, dough balls and other non-plastics are a good choice. Homemade baits are also a good choice for adding glycerin.
- 2). Add glycerin to the bag or container. Glycerin can typically be purchased at many pharmacies. Pour the glycerin around the bait until it is slightly covered. Make sure to use enough glycerin to completely cover the bait in the bag.
- 3). Add attractants to the glycerin and bait. Use additives such as anise oil, cod liver oil, food coloring, garlic, sea salt and even brown sugar to the bag. Mix the additives thoroughly and incorporate with the glycerin, especially if using food coloring, so that you have even coloration when done.
- 4). Allow the bait and glycerin mixture to settle, making sure that there are no bubbles and the bait is completely covered.
- 5). Place the bag or container with the bait and glycerin mixture into a refrigerator. You may want to consider using a second bag over the first bag or container when working with more pungent additives. Keep the bait in the refrigerator until ready to use. Glycerin thickens when cooled and this can help to hold the bait on the hook when cast into the water.
