- 1). Use your anti-virus software to initiate a complete scan of your computer. Infected files can cause your Web browser to redirect to annoying or dangerous websites. If the software discovers any viruses or malware, allow the software to remove the threats and restart your computer, if necessary.
- 2). Change your Web browser's security settings to prevent site redirection. On Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and "Internet Options." Click the "Security" tab and adjust the slider to "High." On Firefox, click "Tools" and click on the "Advanced" tab. Select the "General" sub-tab and under "Accessibility," add a check mark next to "Warn Me When Web Sites Try to Redirect or Reload The Page." Click "Save" to save your changes.
- 3). Clear your DNS cache with the "ipconfig" command. Click the "Start" icon on the task bar. Type "cmd" into the "Start" menu search bar and press "Enter" to access the Command Prompt. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" into the Command Prompt and wait until the message "Successfully Flushed The DNS Resolver Cache" appears.
