How to Do a Faux Hawk Ponytail
- 1). Wash and condition hair as normal. Apply a volumizing mousse or gel to damp hair and comb it through from roots to tips. Use your fingers to massage the scalp so the volumizer saturates the roots.
- 2). Blow-dry the hair in sections to create maximum volume throughout the entire head. Use a brush to pull the sections of hair upward and away from the face.
- 3). Tease the hair 2 to 3 inches from the scalp, at the crown of your head, using a fine-toothed comb. This will add volume to the top of your head.
- 4). Create a large triangle at the crown of your head using a fine-toothed comb. The triangle points should be from the corners of both eyes to the center crown of your head.
- 5). Pull the hair up into a ponytail and secure at the crown of your head. The ponytail should be somewhat loose to prevent flattening the hair.
- 6). Brush the back of your hair into a high, tight ponytail secured just below the first ponytail.
- 7). Spray the hair with a medium-hold hairspray to secure any flyaways.
- 8). Massage your scalp and lift the hair with your fingers to create volume. The more hair you lift, the bigger the crown of your hair will be.
- 9). Spray the hair with a medium-hold hairspray once you reach your desired height to secure the style. To increase volume on top, insert the end of the fine-toothed comb into the hair and pull upward or use your fingers to add volume. Add bobby pins to hair that will not remain in place.
