Fashion Tips for Big & Tall Women

In fashion, tall women have an advantage given their exceptional height. Although it may seem difficult to shop for trendy clothing tailored to your longer limbs, once you do find them, the end result may be a rewarding one. With a tasteful fashion sense, you carry the added benefit of wearing and showcasing your looks like a beautiful model. Interestingly, your tall height brings your prominence and you can carry your clothing very well, while turning admiring heads at the same time. But whether you feel more comfortable in accentuating your height or giving the impression of minimizing it, your selection of specified fashion looks is key. - Wear striped tops and dresses (especially vertical ones) that will bring a sense of boldness to your height. For a trendy style, opt for a fun nautical look, pairing a striped sailor top with a navy blazer, long skinny jeans and ballet flats. Or, make an even bolder statement with long striped dresses of black and white, or navy blue and tan. For this particular look, large color-blocking is key.
- Choose high-heeled footwear. Of course, if you want to bring more attention to your height, then wearing sexy and sleek stiletto pumps, platform heels and stiletto knee boots are certainly the way to go. Also, try wearing skinny jeans with black suede thigh-high boots, which will show off your long legs.
- Find a knee-length, body-skimming black dress that will not only accentuate your long figure, but will also show off your curves while the black color gives a slimming effect. You will find "the little black dress" to be an important fashion staple for your wardrobe.
- Show off your height with flowing maxi-style dresses. This style is versatile both for day and night, and you can find maxi dresses in virtually any color, material or pattern (think a bold floral print or polka dots). Wear these dresses in jersey material for day, and in chiffon or silk for night.
- Accessorize with large, statement-making jewelry and handbags. Long, chunky, beaded necklaces will flatter your long torso and highlight your beautiful neck. Try pulling back your hair in a neat chignon and then pair long, dangling earrings or large hoops for a dramatic effect. Combine your looks with large tote bags, clutches and satchels designed with attractive bright colors and patterns. Just imagine a zebra-colored large clutch with your sexy black dress.
- Wear classy ballet flats in your choice of hues matched with jeans for a day look, and for night, instead of wearing four-inch stilettos, opt for sexy kitten-heeled shoes, flat knee boots or low wedges to go with your knee-length dresses.
- Try combining longer, frilly blouses in subdued colors (blacks, grays, neutrals) over jeans and pants to lessen the impression of long legs. These long blouses (if they're cut near the mid-thigh area) will serve as a cut-off point, reducing the length of your legs.
- Avoid wearing very long floor length dresses and skirts as well as very short ones. Long dresses will, of course, accentuate your tall height; very short ones will highlight your long legs. Finding the ideal look may seem tricky but if you stick to the chic and classic knee-length dresses and pencil skirts you'll notice the added versatility that this style brings, along with its classy sexiness.
- Wear tops and bottoms that are fairly close to the same color group (assuring that they're subdued colors) and avoid monochromatic styles. Think of a pair of neutral, beige trousers with a light mauve blouse. Or similarly, black jeans with a gray tee. Super bold colors like red, yellow, fuschia, neons or prints that combine bright colors will enhance your tall height.
- Avoid large-sized accessories and instead, opt for tasteful, simple pieces like a gold charmed necklace, thin bangles and bracelets and studded earrings. Rather than lugging large handbags, try finding smaller purses without sacrificing all the essentials that you need to bring with you. During evening occasions, pair a small clutch with your choice of dress.
- Combine wide-legged or boyfriend-style jeans with your tops as opposed to long, skinny jeans. This will bring more attention to the left and right sides of your body rather than top to bottom, therefore, minimizing your height.
