Smart Solutions for Packing Accessories When Traveling

106 32
Nobody like to pack a suitcase.  There never seems to be enough room and it can be hard to stay organized.  However, the more organized you can make your suitcase the more you can carry.  Clothing isn't the only thing that needs to be travel ready, you also need to think about your toiletries and accessories, like jewelry, shoes, belts, bags, and more.  To ensure you pack your bag like a pro, here are some smart solutions for packing your favorite and most necessary accessories for your next trip.

1. Packing hats in a suitcase

The blog a pair & a spare gives excellent advice on how to pack a hat in a suitcase when it isn't floppy or crushable.  To help keep the hat's shape, fold a small garment into the crown of it.  Next, place the hat, brim facing down, on a layer of clothing in the suitcase and then fold your remaining clothing around the crown of the hat so it doesn't flop around in the suitcase.

2. Spacepak

Award-winning Spacepak packing system maximizes luggage space by compressing up to 2 weeks’ worth of clothing in tidy compartments that fit together handsomely in your suitcase or travel bag.  Smartly, they make one of their packs specifically for shoes.  Even when clean, they’re dirty. And they are always such odd shapes. Spacepak Shoes contains your kicks (and protects clothes from dirty soles) in one easy-to-pack zippered box-bag.  Alternatively, you can use large gallon sized Ziploc bags for clean shoe storage.

3. Jewelry Roll

You could just throw your jewelry in a zipper pouch, however, once you arrive at your destination you are potentially setting yourself up for tons of unnecessary necklace untangling time.  It's just not worth it, nor is the possibility of damaging some of your favorite pieces.  Instead, look into a jewelry roll that not only protects your jewelry by keeping it flat but conveniently folds up and takes up a lot less space.

4. Smart belt packing

Do you just coil up your belts and throw them in your suitcase.  This smart packing article from Real Simple makes the smart suggestion to snake your belts around the perimeter of your suitcase, instead.  Not only does this take up a lot less space but the belts also cradle the clothing piles and keeps them in place.

5. Use the space in your shoes

Even if they are packed well, shoes take up a lot of space.  However, you can use the space inside your packed shoes to store small accessories, like small pieces of jewelry.  This strategy is particularly helpful if you aren't packing enough jewelry to warrant bringing a jewelry roll.  Just be sure to store your jewelry in jewelry pouches, like these, before storing them in your shoes. You can also use the space in your shoes to stuff your socks, as well.

Don't forget the plastic bags

There is nothing worse than clothing and accessories getting ruined in a suitcase from spills, leaks or stains caused by toiletry products, like shampoo, makeup, medicines, and more.To avoid this, pack all these potential stain causing products in large Ziploc bags.Throw in a few extra ones for the trip home in case anything leaks while in transit to your destination so you can have fresh ones for your trip home.Lastly, be sure to travel with a roll of Scotch tape.Use it to seal all your toiletry products before you pack them and tape them closed again before you pack for your return.
