    • 1). Select a style goal for the end result. Even if you decide for one week to grow out your processed hair, you have to commit for that week and let yourself experiment with ways to make it easier. It's time to get out all the barrettes and bobby pins and access your styling tools.

    • 2). Think about a temporary color process, if you are growing out darker hair from blond. Many drugstore brands have color that has no ammonia or peroxide and will only temporarily add color to your hair. So if you are brown and roots are growing in on blond, trying coloring the rest of your hair with a temporary color to darken it. It will make the re-growth less noticeable.

    • 3). Curl or flat iron your hair at the roots. If you are growing out a perm or a straightener, you can allow enough to re-grow and then blend them in by flattening or straightening the new growth. Yes, heat styling does do some damage, but if you want a new head of unprocessed hair, a few heat styling days won't keep your new hair from shining.

    • 4). Use Accessories. No matter what your growing out from, you can always pin hair up or off your face and hide some re-growth. Use decorated bobby pins to add sparkle. Naturally curly hair styles nicely pinned up and if you have straight hair re-growth, curls can cover the root area. Headbands are also a good way to blend curly or straight hair in to its opposite.

    • 5). Condition your hair. You can't get enough moisture in to your hair when you are growing it out, so deep condition, condition after shampooing and then use a leave-in conditioner. This will help your processed hair blend in better with your natural hair that is in better condition. And don't feel you need to wash your hair every day. Natural hair oils are good for conditioning, so let it go a day or two while you grow it out.
