How to Glue Tiles to Sheetrock

    • 1). Mark a level horizontal line along the length of the bottom of the wall, using a pencil and level. Set the line up from the floor by the height of a tile plus ¼ inch. (For example, if the tiles are 6 inches high, the line will be 6 1/4 inches from the floor.)

    • 2). Use the level and pencil to make a vertical line up the middle of the wall, from the floor to the top.

    • 3). Spread glue over the base of the wall with the notched trowel, so it covers the whole span from the floor up to the horizontal line.

    • 4). Set the first course of tiles into the glue, beginning at the vertical line in the center and working out to the sides. Line the tiles up right under the line, so there is a quarter-inch space between them and the floor. Put spacers between the tiles as you hang them.

    • 5). Use your tile cutter to cut the tiles at either end of the course to fit in the corners.

    • 6). Repeat the process for each course of tiles, spreading more glue on the wall and working your way up with each course. Begin each course at the middle line and work to the sides. Cut the tiles at the ends as needed. Do the whole wall.

    • 7). Let the glue set for 12 hours. Remove the spacers.

    • 8). Spread grout over the wall, with a grout float, starting at the top and working your way down. Press the grout into the spaces between the tiles. Use a sponge to wipe off the residual grout.
