Eyebrow & Eyelid Tattooing

104 12

    Procedure

    • Permanent cosmetics are tattoos, but they are applied a little differently than traditional tattoos. This procedure, called micropigmentation, should be performed in a plastic surgeon's office. The surgeon will apply local anesthetic to ease the pain caused by the tattoo pen.

    Advantages

    • The main advantages to permanent cosmetics such as eyeliner and eyebrow tattoos, according to plastic surgeon Dr. Jean Loftus, are the time saved in daily makeup application and the non-smearing professional appearance.

    Cost

    • Do not expect tattoo parlor prices to be attached to these procedures. According to Dr. Loftus, eyebrow and eyeliner tattoos cost between $300 and $1,000 as of 2009.

    Considerations

    • Facial cosmetic tattoos are, like any tattoo, meant to be permanent. This is not a tattoo that can be covered up with clothing. If it does not look the way you thought it would, you are still stuck with displaying the results every day.

    Warning

    • According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, some risks inherent with tattooing are infection, allergic reaction to the ink used and scarring.
