How to Make Mosaic Trivets With Frames
- 1). Wipe a picture frame clean with a damp paper towel, removing any dust and dirt from the surface. Wipe the glass on both sides.
- 2). Place the glass in the frame and secure it with any tabs the frame may have. The glass will form the base you use for the mosaic.
- 3). Put a piece of glass or tile between layers of old newspaper. Tap it gently a few times with a hammer to break the glass or tile. Repeat this process until you have enough small pieces in various colors to make your mosaic.
- 4). Place a small amount of glue on the picture frame glass. Arrange the colored glass or tile on the glue. Leave a small amount of space between the pieces; they shouldn't touch. If you need to, you can pick up the pieces and rearrange them if you don't like how the mosaic looks the first time.
- 5). Continue laying glue and tile or colored glass until you have covered the entire piece of picture frame glass. Allow it to dry for 24 hours.
- 6). Mix grout with water once the mosaic is dry. Use a disposable bowl or container for easier cleanup.
- 7). Cover the mosaic with grout. Get the grout in between all the individual tiles or colored glass pieces; the easiest way to do so is to simply pour the grout on top. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands when working with wet grout.
- 8). Wipe the grout from the top of the tiles and colored glass. Use newspaper or paper towels to ensure they are all clean.
- 9). Allow the grout to dry completely, which may take several hours. Refer to the grout instructions for the exact length of time needed to allow it to dry.

Cover your trivet with a clear sealant to protect it from stains --- an important step if you plan to use the trivet near food and drinks.
