Mindset: What Is Yours?
What does mindset really mean, and why should you care? Mindset is how you think about yourself and your business. Mindset is comprised of the beliefs, values, standards, morals, and concepts that you hold. A mindset is a good indicator in business of a person's success or failure. What is in your mindset determines your orientation, your approach, your attitude, and your energy.
For example, if "all things are possible" is in my mindset then how do I approach negotiations, difficulties, opportunities, etc.? When I interact with you, what is my demeanor, what is my energy level? With the mindset of "all things are possible", my energy and demeanor are positive and I approach you and any opportunity with a positive attitude. Now, if I say to you "all things are NOT possible", all of a sudden you feel an energy drain, and your mind starts to come up with negative consequences, right?
Here's my question to you, "What is YOUR definition of mindset?" Take the time to really think about this question and answer it honestly. While this step may seem difficult (and sometimes it is!), don't let that stop you from doing it. Your answers will help create the foundation for what you are building.
Why Is Mindset Important & Important As A Business Owner?
Thoughts drive actions! How you think dictates how you live and how you do business. For example, imagine two business owners: one who believes people are inherently good and one who believes people are inherently bad. Whom would you choose to work with and why? How would the first owner act toward you as a client? How would the second owner act toward you as a client? At this point it is significant to understand that mindset is *not* genetically inherited nor carved in stone. Mindset is what WE choose to operate with. As such, it can be changed, modified, or altered. In reality, you can choose to be who you want to be by simply thinking from that particular perspective. This is the essence of the concept of mindset. This is where you decide who you are going to be AND how you are going to do it. It is time for you to really think about and determine what kind of mindset you are going to have.
Here are some steps on how to make these elements part of your mindset:
1. Put it in writing.
2. Focus on the list you made in #1 three times a day for 30 days.
3. Act as though these elements are already a part of your mindset. For example, if being positive was an element you wanted to have in addition to thinking about it, *act* as though you already were positive. See if you don't feel yourself shifting to a more positive mindset.
4. Create a Vision Board. It can be a life board, a business board, a combination thereof. The important thing here is to just create it. The power of #1 and #4 will astound you. I promise!
Mindset of A Successful Business Person
All of these thoughts, positive and negative, affect your mindset and ultimately your outcome. Having a positive mindset, associating with people who believe in you (and support you), are vital to maintaining a positive mindset. Who is supporting you?
