How to Fold Scottish Plaid
- 1). Check to ensure the area is clear of dirt, dust and other objects. Since you must lay the plaid on the ground, the area should be clean so that you don't have to wear a dirty plaid. Lay the fabric piece on the ground. Spread it out and remove all folds and wrinkles. Place a wide belt under the center of the fabric.
- 2). Measure five feet from the end of the fabric. Start to make pleats in the fabric. Grab the short side edge of the fabric and bring it toward you in a straight line. Create a three to four inch pleat in the fabric. Smooth the pleat with your hang to make a crisp edge.
- 3). Continue to make four or five inch crisp pleats until you only have four or five feet of fabric on the other side of the fabric. The middle of the plaid should look like an accordion.
- 4). Sit in the middle of the fabric, just in front of the pleats. The two long ends of the fabric should be to your right and left sides.
- 5). Draw the left side of the fabric over your lap. Try not to disturb the pleats as you do this. Bring the other side of the fabric over your right side and lay it on your lap as well. Try to arrange the fabric as straight as possible while not disturbing the pleats.
- 6). Buckle the belt around the fabric to hold it in place. Stand up.
- 7). Take one of the loose ends of the fabric and bring it up to the front of your shoulder. Bring the other loose end up from the back of your shoulder. Pin the ends of the fabric to your shoulder or tie it in a knot.
- 8). Arrange the rest of the skirt around your body so that you are completely covered. Adjust the height of the plaid to reach just above the kneecaps.
