How to Design Your Own Ice Hockey Equipment
- 1). Log on to the website of equipment makers to see if they offer an online customization program. As of summer 2010, top brand names that offer the program include Warrior (custom gloves and goalie gear), Reebok (goalie gear), Sher-Wood/TPS (player gloves, sticks and goalie gear) and Brian's and Vaughn (goalie gear). Common choices include size, color and performance level of the equipment. Goalies can order pads that have varying degrees of flexibility, depending on their style of play. You can also go to the websites of a number of retailers who offer customization options for brand-name equipment.
- 2). Select the piece of equipment you want to customize from the drop-down box. Choose the model you want to design--note that generally, only pro and semi-pro models offer customization. Click on the "Customize" tab, which opens a design template.
- 3). Click on the area you want to color. Generally speaking, the first color selection will be the primary color of the piece of equipment. Follow the instructions to color additional areas. After you've finished, fill out the personal information on the bottom of the template. Click to save or print the form.
- 4). Select any additional pieces of equipment that you want to custom design. For goalies, you may get the option to select the graphic of your choice or to submit your own graphic; follow the included instructions on the template to select the graphic or how to send the company your own design.
- 5). Email the completed template(s) to the company to have a representative contact you regarding pricing for customization of your equipment. Alternately, if you printed the templates, go to your local sporting goods store or pro shop that deals in your chosen brand and have the store contact the company for you.
