How to Remove Programs From Windows Start-Up
- 1). Open the "Start" menu, and in the search bar (Vista) type "MSCONFIG," and hit "Enter." If you are using an earlier version of Windows, open the "Start" menu, and open the "Run" program, then type in MSCONFIG.
The system configuration tool will open. - 2). Click the "Startup" tab along the row at the top to bring up a list of all the programs that are launched when the computer boots.
- 3). Click any of the menus along the top ("Startup Item," "Manufacturer," "Command," "Location") to alphabetize the list. This will make it easier to find the programs you want to remove.
- 4). Locate the program(s) that you want to prevent from launching, and uncheck the box next to each.
- 5). Click the "Apply" button when you are finished, and then click "OK."
- 6). Click either "Restart" or "Exit with Restarting." The changes that you made will not take effect until you restart the computer, but it is not necessary to restart immediately.
