Can a Shower Surround be Placed Over Existing Tile?
- Ensure your current shower is scrubbed as clean as possible. As the surround will be covering all of it, you will not be able to be clean it again, unless you remove your surround which is not an easy task. Bacteria and mold may result if it is not spotless.
- Make sure your underlay is completely dry and your shower surround is 100 percent watertight. If these are not the case, water can quickly breed bacteria, mold and even end up being a breeding ground for unwanted pests.
- The last consideration is that, if you use your shower surround for an extended period of time and do not switch it out, your underlay may experience permanent discoloration. This is due to not being able to clean it regularly. This may not be an issue if you do not wish to use your underlay again.
