How to Airbrush With Alcohol on Styrofoam

104 13
    • 1). Plug in the air compressor and turn it on. Set up the airbrush and your airbrushing workstation.

    • 2). Shape the Styrofoam if desired. Begin by cutting out a rough, basic shape of what you want the end figure to look like. Cut away large chunks of Styrofoam using a knife. Shape the figure and take away any rough edges using a rasp. Finish and refine, using sandpaper to smooth the Styrofoam's surface and remove any blemishes.

    • 3). Mix an alcohol additive such as Krolyn's Fixer Spray into the water-based airbrushing paint. Affix the paint canister to the airbrush.

    • 4). Holding the airbrush level, press downward and back on the airbrush's trigger to release paint. Spray the paint onto the Styrofoam in even strokes. Cover the Styrofoam surface completely. If desired, layer different colors of paint to create a finished look.

    • 5). Clean out the airbrush by flooding the chamber with rubbing alcohol and spraying it into a sink.
