How to Remove Scales From the Scalp

    • 1). Wet your scalp thoroughly with warm water, massage in a few spoonfuls of Jojoba or olive oil and leave it on for 30 minutes. The oil will help soften up the scales so you can remove them gently without making your scalp bleed.

    • 2). Remove the scales gently with your clean fingernail or a comb. Many people find it easier to remove scales with a fingernail. Just slide your finger nail on the edge of one of the scales and gently peel it back slowly. Take your time and don't rush. The more slowly you remove the scale the better the chances it will come off without bleeding. If it does not want to budge, don't force it. You will need to soak the scale longer with oil and try it again in another 30 minutes.

    • 3). Wash the oil out of your hair gently with a shampoo that has no sodium lauryl sulfates in it. Sodium lauryl sulfates are very irritating chemicals that can damage skin by injuring the hair follicles. They can even cause permanent eye damage in children. The use of lauryl sulfates could be a factor in why babies and even older people get scales on their heads.

    • 4). Repeat when necessary. If you get more scales on your head you should repeat these steps again. In time, for most people, scales will stop coming back. Just be patient and keep using these techniques to get rid of scales until they are gone permanently.
