- 1). Gather your tools and put on your gloves and goggles.
- 2). Access the Mazda CX-9's roof. The best way to do this is to use your stepladder; however, if you are tall enough, you may be able to access it without the ladder. You'll see three black tabs on each side of the CX-9 -- six in all. These black tabs have arrows pointing toward the windshield. Apply pressure to the tabs and push them in the direction of the windshield to slide them off.
- 3). Place the center support pieces onto the mount you removed the middle tabs from. There are two center support pieces. You'll put one on each side. Insert the supplied screw and tighten it well with a T-25 screwdriver.
- 4). Place the roof rack on the edge of the roof. Start with either side. Line up the center roof rack mount with the center support piece you installed onto the roof. The other two roof rack mounts should be in line with the holes left by the other two plastic tabs on each side.
- 5). Insert and tighten the T-25 screws into the front and rear mounts on the roof rack using the M6 screws. For the center mount, use the M4 screws.
- 6). Mount the other piece of the roof rack on the other side of the roof in the same manner. When you are finished, grab the finish caps from the package and push them down firmly on either end of the roof racks to cover the hardware. They will snap in place.
