How to Install Hydraulic Door Closures
- 1). Shut the door to which the closer will be attached. Work on the side of the door that is hinged outward, as this is the side of the door to which the closer will be attached.
- 2). Place the main arm onto the pivot on the top of the door closer. Line up the mark on the arm with the mark on the pivot spindle. Secure the arm with the washer and nut provided, and tighten with an adjustable wrench.
- 3). Hold the closer to the top edge of the door with the main arm facing upwards and the short end of the closer facing the hinged side of the door. Ensure the end of the closer is the correct distance from the end of the door, usually 4 to 7 inches depending on the manufacturer.
- 4). Mark the surface of the door with a pencil through the closer mounting holes. Place the closer aside. Drill through the pencil marks using a power drill with the correct diameter of drill bit, depending of the size of mounting screws provided with the closer.
- 5). Hold the closer the door and line up the mounting bolts with the drilled holes. Thread the mounting screws into the holes and tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 6). Hold the pivot mounting bracket to the door frame above the door where the closer is mounted. Ensure the short end of the bracket is facing the hinged side of the door and that the bracket is the correct distance away from the edge of the door, usually 6 to 10 inches depending on the manufacturer. Mark the door frame with a pencil through the bracket mounting holes. Place the bracket aside.
- 7). Drill through the pencil marks using a drill with the correct diameter of drill bit, depending on the size of mounting screws provided with the closer for the bracket. Hold the bracket over the drilled holes, and insert and tighten the mounting screws provided with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 8). Line up the hole at the end of the rod on the main arm of the closer to the mounting hole in the pivot mounting bracket on the door frame. Insert a bolt, and secure it with a washer and nut. Tighten the nut with an adjustable wrench.
- 9). Loosen the lock nut on the closer rod with an adjustable wrench. Twist the nut in the direction needed until the rod is at a right angle to the closer. Tighten the lock nut.

Test the operation of the door. Adjust the door speed and the latching speed by twisting the set screws mounted in the end of the closer using a Phillips screwdriver.
