Website-Created Ringtones

• One popular, and convenient, method of getting the customized ringtone to your BlackBerry is using a website designed to create and send the ringtone to your phone. MakeOwnRingtone.com and PhoneZoo.com are two that are free of charge, but do require you to sign up (see References). For preparation, you will need to have a copy of the song you wish to make into a ringtone on your computer in MP3 or WMA format. These sites have clear and easy-to-understand instructions, but the essence of the process is similar with all of them.
  
  First, upload the song to the website so you can edit it. Then, you need to select the portion of the song you want to use for your ringtone and choose it in the editor. Usually, it is just dragging bars to surround that portion you want. You will be able to play that section to hear what your ringtone sounds like. Try to keep the portion of the song to 30 seconds or shorter as most mobile phones will not play longer than that anyway. The last step is getting the song to your phone. Options available are to download the ringtone to your computer, email the ringtone to your BlackBerry or send the ringtone via a multimedia text message (MMS). When the ringtone arrives on your phone, you select it and save the MP3 sound inside your BlackBerry's Ringtone folder. You will have access to choose this for ringtones under your Profile settings.
  
  

Desktop Manager

• The BlackBerry Desktop Manager can also help to manage your media files, including ringtones. Connect your phone via USB cable, start the program and select "Media" from the main menu. You can add and remove ringtones from your BlackBerry using this program that comes free with your BlackBerry. This is the best way to load any ringtones you have downloaded to your computer onto your phone. The Desktop Manager does not have any capability to create the ringtones, only transfer prepared ringtone files.
