Which Ports Must Be Open to Use the Polycom ViewStation Over the Internet?
- Polycom ViewStations use H.323 standards for communication. H.323 is a standard that defines how to send multimedia communication over packet-switched networks, including the Internet. Communication over the Internet uses both Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP).
- In order to use your Internet connection, you must configure the device to connect to your network. In order to do this, you must know the IP address, system name and gateway information for the network. Depending on your network, you may also need ISDN addresses and protocols.
- If you are using a firewall, certain ports will need to be open for communication through the ViewStation to work properly. TCP port 1720 must be configured to allow H.323 traffic. By default, the ViewStation uses a port range beginning with 3230 for both TCP and UDP. You can configure this option in the LAN connection settings to use different ports if desired. Your firewall must allow TCP and UDP traffic on the ports you specify or the default ports.
