DIY Polished Concrete Floors

    • 1). Rent a concrete grinder from an industrial tool store. These grinders come in either wet or dry form. The wet grinder prevents a lot of dust from blowing around and it also offers better protection for your floor by cooling the grinders once they begin polishing.

    • 2). Move everything off the concrete and clean your floor thoroughly with soap and water. Use a pressure washer to blast off stains and hard-to-reach dirt.

    • 3). Position your grinder where you want to start polishing and attach a running water supply to it if you have a wet grinder. Your floor is going to get soaked, but the water will cut way down on dust and it will protect your floor against friction from the polishing pads.

    • 4). Get a good grip on the floor grinder and tilt it back to raise the pads off the floor. Turn the grinder on and wait for it to reach full speed before lowering it to the floor.

    • 5). Lower the grinder and move it in a smooth left-to-right motion across the floor. Stay in the same spot and results will be noticeable after a few minutes. You can slowly move the grinder to a new area on the floor once you see the grinder is producing the desired effect.
