ARC Welding Safety
- Be careful not to be electrocuted as you weld. Hold the welding rod only, not the part and the welding rod.
- Be sure to protect your eyes by wearing a welding helmet. Flash burns on your eyes are very painful and may cause blindness.
- The welder sparks and can cause your clothing to catch fire. Wear welding gloves and a welding jacket to avoid getting burned. The welding also produces UV light that can give you a sun burn.
- If you are welding in a closed in area, the fumes need to have adequate ventilation. The fumes from some metals are hazardous to your health.
- After welding, be careful not to touch the parts until they have cooled sufficiently. Welded parts cause serious burns and can catch items on fire if they come in contact while the part is very hot. Always have a fire extinguisher handy, just in case.
