How to Use Hiking Boots for Waders
- 1). Purchase the hiking boots two sizes larger than normal. Make sure the boots have a return option. Take the boots home and put on your waders. Place the boots over the foot of the wader and tie them tightly to test the size. Exchange the boots for a larger size if waders are tight and uncomfortable.
- 2). Purchase hiking boots with water-resistant fabrics and a design that does not hold water. Leather boots work well but drain holes must be applied to prevent water from weighting the boots.
- 3). Drill sheet metal screws into the sole of each boot to add traction on slippery wading surfaces. The screws must be short to prevent contact with the foot but the metal assists the wader when the rubber sole is not effective.
- 4). Store the boots upside down after each wading experience. This allows the water to drain and prevents water from pooling in the footbed. Store the boots upside down during cold weather to minimize frost inside of the boot.
