1940s Rockabilly Hairstyles
- Bettie Page, a famous pin-up girl from the 1940s, influenced one of the most popular rockabilly hairstyles. In this style, reminiscent of her most iconic look, hair is cut about shoulder length, with bangs bluntly cut directly across the forehead. Hair is parted in the center and styled in loose waves, except for the bangs. The bangs are styled straight and smooth and should fall about halfway down the forehead.

Pin curls were a stylish 1940s hairstyle and an element of other rockabilly looks. To make authentic pin curls, start with freshly washed hair and let hair air dry until just damp. To set hair in curls, comb out damp hair, separate into lots of small sections then smoothly wind a section of hair around your finger. Secure the wound section of hair flat against the head with a bobby pin and repeat. Tie a silk scarf around your head, and sleep on the curls to let them dry. In the morning, gently finger comb hair to separate curls. - True rockabilly hairstyles start with hair cut in a special way, with front sections of hair cut in layers much shorter than the back. Any mid-length hair can work though. Start by sectioning hair and curling. Hot rollers, foam rollers or pin curls will all work for this style. After curling your hair, create volume by teasing the inside of the front curls closest to your face. With these teased pieces, create a roll on top of your head, and secure them with pins and hairspray. For sides and back, similar rolls or loose curls will work.

A classic rockabilly style for men is made of slicked back hair or a pompadour, or both. After washing hair, grease it up with pomade and comb back toward the nape of your neck. To create a pompadour, use a comb to push the front section of your hair forward and up. Tease this section of hair at the roots to create lift, then comb lightly in the back to blend it in with the rest of your hair. Secure with extra pomade or gel.
