How Do JET Chips Work?
- Performance chips like the JET chip recalibrate the stock information about the engine stored on the original computer chip. The computer receives this information --- as well as information from sensors about the engine's characteristics at any given time --- and makes real-time adjustments to optimize performance. The type of computer in your vehicle dictates the type of device you will need.
- Information stored on the JET chip includes specifications such as air-to-fuel ratio, spark timing and advance, shift firmness, shift points and top speed. Sensors monitor parameters such as manifold air pressure, intake air temperature and air flow, coolant temperature and revolutions per minute (RPM).
- According to the manufacturer, the JET chip conforms to smog regulations in all states. Moreover, it should not decrease gas mileage. Additionally, fuel consumption is either unaffected or may actually improve depending on how the car is driven. JET chips are available in Stage 1 models designed for unmodified stock engines, or Stage 2 models for engines that have been adjusted to run cooler and have exhaust systems that are less restrictive.
