Decorating Ideas For Rooms with Full Size Headboards

105 3
Sometimes a small bedroom lacks enough space for an entire bedroom collection. In that case, the decorator or homemaker faces a real challenge. The small bedroom in the home might need more than a bed. Therefore, family members should initiate a search for appropriate bedroom furniture. They might decide to purchase one of the full size headboards, and then find pieces that would go with that large board.

Now imagine a home where most members of the family spend a good deal of time in front of the television. Such a home could probably use a media armoire. That armoire is designed to hold a large TV. For the same reason, that armoire goes beautifully with a particular type of wooden bed frame--the one in the Mason Collection, and the one with a king headboard. That board has thick birch planks that have been planed by skillful hands. Grooves and marks serve as accents on those planks, giving them the appearance of salvaged lumber.

Next, reflect on the decorating problems in a home with a guest room. When decorating a guest room, a family must think about both the preferences of family members and the needs of the guest. The family members might agree to purchase a queen headboard. If they then had reservations about getting a small dresser, but did not care to invest in a large wardrobe, they might want to get the queen frame in the Hudson Collection. The wooden pieces in that collection match perfectly with the wood in a piece called a chifforobe. That piece is larger than a dresser but smaller than a wardrobe.

Now not every queen or king size headboard has been crafted from wood. Some headboards are upholstered pieces. Upholstered boards are usually not part of any particular collection. The early spring 2010 catalogue from Restoration Hardware shows two different ways for decorating a room with an upholstered headboard.

One picture in that catalogue shows a Wallace queen bed with a Mayfair steamer chest at its foot. The same bed has Mayfair steamer cubes on either side of it, with a desk lamp on each cube. This bedroom seems to have been designed by someone who would rather read then watch TV. The leatherwork on the chest and drawers complements the beige color of the upholstered piece at the head of the bed.

A second picture in that same catalogue shares yet another decorating idea. In that picture a Warner queen bed is surrounded by a zinc nightstand, and a zinc three-drawer dresser. Those metal pieces would look out of place next to a wooden bed, but they go perfectly with this upholstered bed.

So those two pictures can prove quite helpful to a homemaker. They show that if you need to decorate a small room, a room that has a bed with a full sized headboard, it is pointless to bemoan the limited amount of space. Instead look for interesting items to use in whatever space you have available. You might discover that you can demonstrate the ability to be quite resourceful. You might manage to create your own personal "collection."
