How to Make a Magnetized Chalkboard Calendar
- 1). Sand the wood sheet's surface with a sanding block, or use it to create a rough surface on metal flashing to help the paint adhere to the surface. Remove any debris from the sanded surface with a soft cloth or brush.
- 2). Mark off the desired frame size around the main surface of the board with masking tape and a ruler; use the ruler's edge as a guide to keep the margin lines straight while applying the tape.
- 3). Apply the chalkboard paint in two coats, letting the first coat dry completely before the second application.
- 4). Sand the dry painted surface gently, and prime it by rubbing with a piece of chalk before wiping clean. Remove the tape bordering the chalkboard surface, and paint the surrounding margins with a colorful frame using colored craft paint and a brush.
- 5). Apply a strip of adhesive magnetic tape to the bottom of the calendar to create a magnetic surface to hold the chalk and eraser. Apply smaller strips to the back of the eraser and a chalk holder to tack them to the board magnetically.
- 6). Write out the current month day by day with a straight edge, a piece of chalk and a current reference calendar as a guide. Create large squares, making it easy to write notes on important dates, such as birthdays, appointments or personal reminders.
- 7). Apply an adhesive picture hook to the back of the calendar to display it on a wall, or attach it to metal surfaces magnetically by applying strips of magnetic tape in place of the hook. Hang the finished calendar on a wall, refrigerator or cabinet door for convenience and quick reference.
