    • 1). Wait out the appeals process following a judgment. Between filing for a new trial and an appeal, this could take up to 45 days.

    • 2). Ask the judge to make payment arrangements part of the judgment, if possible, or talk to the defendant to arrange payment.

    • 3). Pay $20 to transfer the case to district court if the debtor cannot pay, or is unwilling to pay within 30 days of the lien judgment. Transferring the case will allow you to seek further action to secure your payment.The district court clerk will have the form that you need to do this.

    • 4). Execute judgment by getting a writ of execution from the judge, which will force the defendant to pay through levying her personal property but not her home.

    • 5). File for the debtor's wages to be withheld, or garnished, by applying for a writ to give you the ability to do so. Once granted, serve the defendant's place of business with the paperwork, and up to 25 percent of the defendant's paycheck will be paid to you directly from his employer.

    • 6). File for foreclosure on the property that is under lien. This must be done within eight months of the judgment.
