How to Make a Headboard From a Mantel
- 1). Measure the top of your bed. Measure the opening of the mantel to ensure the top of your bed will fit inside it.
- 2). Position the mantel on the wall where you want it to sit. Run a pencil across the top of the mantel, making a pencil mark on the wall to indicate where the top of the mantel sits.
- 3). Remove the mantel from the wall. Locate where the center of the mantel will sit on the wall by locating the center of the pencil mark.
- 4). Place the bottom of the top of an "L" bracket on the top center of the pencil line; the back of the bracket should lay against the wall, and the bottom of the bracket should stick out of the wall, just below the pencil line. Make a pencil mark in the holes on the back of the bracket. Remove the bracket from the wall.
- 5). Drill a hole through each pencil mark that indicates where the holes in the back of the bracket sits. Place a plastic expansion anchor into each of the drilled holes and hammer them into place.
- 6). Place the bracket back on the wall so that the openings are over the anchor-filled holes. Drill 3-inch screws through the holes on the back of the bracket.
- 7). Position the headboard back onto the wall so that the center is sitting underneath the "L" bracket.
- 8). Drill a 2-inch wood screw through the hole on the top of the bracket, through the top of the mantel.
- 9). Place the head of the bed into the opening in the mantel.
